We are the number 7 largest county within the state of Texas out of 254. When I took office in 2015, we were ninth by population And that’s kind of showing just how fast we’re growing. Each County Clerk within the state of Texas, we cover the county court records. We manage those records. We also take in the real property recordings and we manage the vital records within the county.
With a population of over a million, we’ll take in roughly 200,000 property recordings each year. One of the ways that I’m able to accomplish everything that I do within the office is I have a staff of 88 that are just phenomenal. And the good part about it is that they all share my goal of public service. I haven’t grown my staff in the same rate as the population has grown. We’ve just utilized better technology to serve the public. One of the things that’s been very important to me is to make all of those public records more readily available to the public. If there’s any property record that you need to look at, you’re able to go online and find those records. On an average year, we’ll do right around 150,000, 175,000 documents each year, and 87% of those documents are recorded electronically.
Before COVID, it was actually 78%. People found electronic solutions to their problems so they weren’t having to go into these offices even when our property reporting numbers went up and they went up pretty substantially. We were able to just maintain the same number of staff. The system is friendly enough and efficient enough that we were able to maintain those levels and still record all of the documents, the real property records timely.
Our goal is to record everything within our electronic queue by end of day. The ease of use with the electronic queue, the functionality, it just services our workflow best. We can get into the queue, work through those eRecordings, as well as walk in customers. So if a customer walks in while we’re in an eRecording, the Clerk is able to suspend that order, help the customer in person and go right back to their e recording when they’re done.
Working with Neumo has been a great experience. I think coming on board, we were an early adapter with Neumo. So we were able to help just kind of shift the program in a way that was more user friendly for us and our workflows. One of the things that I really like about Neumo is the fact that they’re always developing and continuous improvement all of the time. They’re always coming out with new technology. They’re they’re making their system as robust as it is. They’re finding new solutions and making it even more robust.
